Are You a Writer or Know One That Frequently Suffers from Writer’s Block?
If so, I’ve found a clever gift that might actually help relieve that stubborn bout of nothingness that often creeps up when you least expect it to!
The Original Writer’s Block was sent to me to review and, as a writer (among other things), I thought it was a cute idea that is also really helpful for prompting those creative thoughts. Lord knows that when I am busy and stressed, I come to the occasional bump in the road where I feel like I’ve lost all of my creativity.
I’ve been writing since age 8. Back then I wrote short stories, poetry and little plays that my brother, sister and I could act out. As I grew older, my love for writing continued to grow. I know run the blog that you are reading right now, as well as write a wide variety of both online and print content. Of course, when writing is your job and no longer just a hobby, you tend to hit more blocks in the road. At least that’s been my experience.
The Original Writer’s Block Seems So Simple, But Can Do So Much!
You’ll notice that this is a block of wood. Although it might seem a bit silly to those that don’t really understand writing, this simple piece of wood is actually quite helpful. Just take it in your hand, close your eyes and run your fingers over its smooth surface. Feel its sturdiness. Let your fingers gently move over the wood’s fine grain. The tactile sensations will help to spark the writer’s mind, releasing all of those descriptive thoughts and feelings.
Hold the block of wood up to your nose and take a deep breath. Can you smell the light wood scent? What does that remind you of? The warmth of summer wafting past your nose as you take a casual stroll through the forest? Freshly cut wood?
Now look at the wood. Carefully turn it over in your hand and take time to appreciate each and every fine detail that nature has provided you. The stripes in the wood almost resemble the many colors of a silken haired maiden. Yet, the smoothed out knots in the block remind us that nothing is free of flaws.
Having something as simple as a block of wood can be surprisingly fruitful for the writer who knows how to use it to snap out of the funk that we all know as writer’s block. The examples that I gave above are just the beginning.
