Enjoy high quality essential oils? Then you’ll love doTERRA!

As a member of The Pitch List, I recently had the opportunity to review two, therapeutic grade essential oils from doTERRA thanks to Allison Hays. I was provided with Lavender and Lemon essential oils for my review.

Both were small, sample-sized bottles, but they were more than enough to perform a thorough review. And just look at these adorable little bottles!

Maybe it’s just me, but I think they are cute! And, oh my goodness, they are potent!

d?TERRA, is a Latin derivative that essentially means “Gift of the Earth.”After trying these oils, I have to agree. Not only was I happy with the fragrance of the essential oils, but I was also very pleased with my experience using these oils. Maybe I should first explain that I am not a person prone to raid the medicine cabinet every time I get the sniffles or have a headache (a quite common ailment now that I work 12 hours a day on the computer while caring for my 3 year old son). I tend to opt for more natural ways to make myself feel better. Organic herbal teas have been a long time favorite, but my regular go-to solutions might just be trumped by my experience with these essential oils.

I was really surprised at the many things that essential oils can be used for! I’ve used essential oils strictly as aromatics in the past, but I now realize that they can also be used topically and internally. The internal use was fascinating to me. Who would think of putting a few drops of Lavender essential oil in their tea? Not me! Well, not until now anyway. It is also important to note that not all essential oils are able to be used internally. Pure Lavender essential oil like doTERRA’s, for instance, can be used internally. Unfortunately, not all brands of essential oils are created equal and it is possible that these impure oils can cause harm if ingested. Please keep this in mind as you read the many uses of the PURE doTERRA essential oils below.

Just a few of the many uses for these two oils…

Pure Lavender essential oil can be used aromatically, topically and internally for a great many different things. In fact, throughout history, lavender oil has been quite popular – and it’s no wonder! This pure essential oil is not only naturally calming, it is also capable of the following: 

•  Reducing pain
• Acting as an antiseptic
• Freshening and deodorizing the air
• Inducing sleep and aiding those suffering from insomnia
• Reducing the instance of scarring from cuts, scrapes or burns
• Unblocking tear ducts
• Relieving chapped or burnt skin, including the lips
• Alleviating allergies
• Eliminating dry scalp
• Killing bacteria
• Repelling insects

I personally tried this Lavender oil as an aromatic to calm my nerves and help me to sleep. I should have waited a bit longer because I still had some work to do the first night I took it out. It acts quickly! I also rubbed a few drops into my elbows because they are constantly rubbing up against the arms of my office chair and get so dry as the seasons change. I’m happy to report that this particular use has helped tremendously. In addition, I added 2 drops to my tea. It made it taste a bit different, but not nearly as bad as I thought it would. I think once I got past the idea that it smelled like I was drinking flowers, I was good. The result? A very relaxed mama!

The pure Lemon Essential Oil kind of smelled like happiness in a bottle to me. I love the smell of lemon! It’s crisp, clean, citrus-y smell always makes me smile. However, I found out that there were a whole lot more uses for Pure Lemon essential oil than I was aware of!  Here are just a few:

• Improves memory
• Extends shelf life of produce
• Increases learning ability
• Removes oil and grease
• Enhances alertness
• Loosens gum for removal
• Adds a pleasant scent to your household
• Freshens laundry
• Acts as a cleaning agent to naturally disinfect counters, butcher’s blocks, tables and more

I personally used this pure Lemon essential oil for my laundry. I have wool dryer balls and I added a drop to each of the six balls and tossed them in the dryer with a load of towels. They came out smelling amazing! I figure, what better way to start the morning than with the invigorating smell of lemon fresh towels? Of course, I also used it for cleaning the kitchen. I added it to a vinegar and water solution to help cut that vinegar scent. Now my kitchen is not only clean, but smells good, too! Finally, I used the Lemon essential oil to help enhance my Garlic Parmesan Shrimp recipe and it really brought out the lemon flavor, which is normally masked by the garlic. Mr. Creative informed me that we need to get more of the Lemon essential oil because he thinks it commingled so much better with the garlic than just using the lemon juice alone. For once, I have to agree.
