Publisher's Clearing House Sweepstakes

How would I spend the $1 Million plus $5,000 Every Week For Life Mega Prize?

You all will probably laugh at me, but I really don’t think I would be that extravagant. If I ever win the $1 Million plus $5,000 Every Week For Life Mega Prize, I can’t see me being too irresponsible with the money. You’re here because I’m thrifty, right? Well, that wouldn’t change. There are some things that I would splurge on though.

The first thing I would do is buy a bigger home. I want a home that sits on at least 10 acres because I want room to roam. The requirements of my dream home are as follows:

  • four bedrooms
  • 3 bathrooms
  • big kitchen
  • large pantry
  • formal dining room
  • office
  • big living room
  • main floor laundry room
  • nice sized family room
  • full, finished basement with a built-in safe room/storm shelter
  • patio or large deck off the back
  • large, covered front porch
  • a room that’s full of shelves and cabinets for me to store goods in. This would be in addition to the main floor pantry.

The acreage would be blended, with at least half of it wooded and the remainder open with a lake or large pond. I would love to have a root cellar on the property, as well as fruit and nut trees. A large garden is also a must. In the area I currently live in, I think I could probably manage to get all of this for around $300,000. If I wanted to buy the land and build it myself, it might even be cheaper since I come from a family of carpenters. Assuming I’ll have $700,000 left over, I’ll then spend $25,000 for brand new furniture for the entire house and probably $10,000 to purchase my family all new clothing. I would also pay off our current vehicle and purchase a new vehicle for the hubby and one for myself…no more than $75,000 total for both. So figuring the maximum, I’d be left with $590,000.

Yeesh! Who knew it would be so hard to spend money?

Another thing I would do is pay to have the addition to my grandmother’s home finished and have her basement waterproofed. Gotta take care of my mee-maw because she always took care of me and my siblings! I would also purchase a huge double lot here in my hometown and start a community garden. I love to garden, so that would give me something to do that I enjoy, and it would also help to put fresh fruits and vegetables on the tables of families in my local area. What’s next? I have no clue. I would love to start a scholarship fund for mothers and another for young women. If I put $100,000 aside for each fund, then I’d still have around $300,000 left. I’d put $50,000 in an account for my son and another $50,000 in an account for my stepdaughter for college. I suppose I would just invest the rest. And that doesn’t even take into account the $5,000 that will be coming in week after week!

I’m sure that there’s a lot more that I would do with all of that money, but I’d really like to save or smartly invest most of it. My family of four currently lives on a strict $2000 a month budget and we’re comfortable and happy with what we have, so to have 10 times that amount coming in every month would be pretty overwhelming. Yes, and TOTALLY welcome!

Who Will the Next Publisher’s Clearing House Winner Be?

Can you imagine winning that much money? It could make many dreams come true, couldn’t it? Winners of the Mega Prize could essentially retire and enjoy the rest of their lives without worrying about money. That alone would be a very nice thought, but I like to think of the things I can do for my family, friends and others as well. What could I do to help my community? I’m sure there’s a lot.

Leroy Faulks, the first ever winner of the Publishers Clearing House Mega Prize (pictured above) had to have been shocked beyond belief when the Prize Patrol showed up on his doorstep to announce his big win. How exciting would that be? You’re going about your daily routine, maybe doing laundry or making lunch for your kids when, all of a sudden, there’s a knock at your door. You go to answer it and you’re greeted with balloons, flowers, a giant check and people congratulating you and shoving a microphone in your face. Behind them, you notice there are people holding cameras. Holy cow! What a sight to see on your porch!

But hey, you won’t have a chance to win like Leroy if you don’t enter! Think about it: $1 Million plus $5,000 Every Week For Life!!!
