ENERGY STAR Learn More LogoYes, You CAN Save Money on Your Energy Bills with ENERGY STAR and Best Buy

How many times have you wished that you could lower your electric or gas bill? I know I’ve complained about the price of mine more times than I can count. However, there are many ways that you can lower your energy costs. One of those ways is by replacing old, energy eating appliances with new ENERGY STAR® certified products. You might not be aware of it, but October is Energy Awareness Month. And you know what? That makes this month a great time to upgrade to a new energy-efficient appliance, television or computer to save money on your home energy bills! Did you know that Best Buy has more than 2,300 unique ENERGY STAR certified products available in Best Buy stores and online? It’s a great place to start!

Not familiar with the ENERGY STAR program? ENERGY STAR is a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) voluntary program that helps businesses and individuals save money and protect our climate through superior energy efficiency. Learn more about it here.

ENERGY STAR certified appliances are a win-win!

Did you know that the average home’s annual energy bill is $2,200? That’s nearly $184 a month! For many, energy conservation may mean shutting down an hour earlier each night, doing the laundry at night, putting a halt to your baking hobby during the summer or even limiting time spent on the computer. Those are all smart implementations to make, but if the appliances in your home are outdated energy suckers, then replacing them might just save you a bundle. For instance, when our old furnace finally bit the dust, we replaced the whole HVAC system with a brand new, 90% energy efficient furnace and central air unit. It was like a shark came along and took a giant bite out of our energy bill – about a $90 bite – and I sure don’t miss paying those ridiculously high bills in the winter and summer!

Things to remember when it’s time to replace an old appliance

We all want to have a nice new appliance to replace an old one, but you should always consider the true price of the appliance you choose. What do I mean by true price? I mean the overall cost. Not just the price of the appliance plus taxes and/or delivery fees. I mean the price of the appliance, taxes, delivery fees and the cost to run it. With ENERGY STAR certified appliances, you know what you’re buying and you can estimate the cost to run it. You’re saving energy AND your hard earned money! Over time, these appliances pay for themselves in savings; however, for those of you that prefer a more immediate solution to the burden of cost, look for appliances that offer an ENERGY STAR rebate. That’s like getting a birthday check in the mail and it’s a quick return on your investment!

Best Buy can even help you locate appliances that currently have a rebate available with their Rebate Finder. All you have to do is enter your zip code and you’ll be shown a wide array of appliances with varying rebates. Easy, right?
