Homemade Chocolate Chip Cookies

Who can get through the winter without making a fresh batch of homemade chocolate chip cookies? Not me! And although it’s frowned upon, I like to eat the cookie dough, too. Shh! I’m not condoning this, just saying. My stepdaughter ate so much of it a couple of weeks ago that she made herself sick. Her aunt told her to stop, that a spoonful was more than enough, but it was evidently just too good.

Now this homemade chocolate chip cookie recipe is one of my favorites because the cookies are just so darn good. I hope you enjoy it as much as my family and I do!

Homemade Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe


3 cups flour
2 1/4 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup packed light brown sugar
1 cup white, granulated sugar
1 cup butter, softened
2 eggs
2 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
2 tsp hot water
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup chopped walnuts (optional)


Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

Mix together the butter, vanilla extract and both sugars until you have a nice, creamy mixture. Beat in one egg, then the other. Mix the hot water and baking soda together until the baking soda is dissolved, then add to the mixture. Mix in salt, then flour. Stir in the chocolate chips and nuts, if you plan to add them.

Drop the dough onto an ungreased cookie sheet by the spoonful – a tablespoon is best, in my opinion.

Bake for 10 – 12 minutes, or until the cookies start to brown. Remove from oven and allow to cool 5 minutes on the cookie sheets before transferring to a wire rack.
