I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for State Farm. I received a promotional item to thank me for participating.
One of my guilty pleasures is giving to others. From as far back as I can remember, I wanted to help people. I wanted to bring a smile to the face of every person I met. I was the little girl that befriended the new kids first and the person that played with the kids no one else would play with so that they never felt alone. I was the girl that was friends with just about everyone simply because I couldn’t fathom the idea of treating one person differently than another.
Later, I became the woman that spent the money she’d stashed away all year on a Christmas tree, ornaments and gifts for a family that needed it worse than her own. I volunteered my time to become a member of the Bucket Brigade and, through couponing, became a regular donor of goods to a local shelter for battered women and children.
Every single act has been a positive experience. Even the smallest act can give someone hope, whether it’s hope in humanity or restoring the will to survive. Once you’ve seen the smile on the face of a person that just lost everything, the excitement in the eyes of a child that hasn’t had a new toy in years or the relief in the woman that just wants to wash her hair and brush her teeth after fleeing her home and everything in it just to survive, you won’t be able to not do anything ever again. It becomes a part of you that you’ll never be able to forget.
Of course, sometimes our lives get so busy that it’s difficult to find time to volunteer or the money to donate. The good news is that there’s a way you can help give back right now. It will only take a few moments of your time and it won’t cost you a cent.
Today, people throughout the United States and Canada are creating a positive impact in their communities. In fact, over 4,000 causes have been submitted to this year’s State Farm Neighborhood Assist, which is an annual program that awards the top contenders with $25,000 each to help further their cause. The State Farm Youth Advisory Board has selected the top 200, but they need YOUR help to vote your favorites into the top 40.
From April 28 through May 16, anyone who has the free State Farm Neighborhood Assist Facebook application can vote daily for their favorite cause, or causes, and help bring $25,000 to the top 40 vote-getters! You get 10 votes per day, so you can use them all on your favorite cause or spread them out amongst as many as 10 causes. Voting is easy and only takes a few moments of your time, so head on over and choose your favorites now!
