We’re currently preparing to take our first BIG family vacation. Yes, folks; I’m actually taking some time off. We’ll be headed to Universal Orlando Resort, where we’ll be staying at Loew’s Portofino Bay Hotel. for the Family Forward Retreat, which is organized by Mom It Forward. Since this is our first major vacation as a family, I thought it would be fun to document my savings along the way so that I could share my tips with all of you. You like to save money, right?

Well, listen up, because I’ve got a few great tips to share! šŸ˜€

Saving Money on Travel Isn’t As Hard as I Thought

You’re never going to believe me when I tell you this, but I’ve literally planned 8 days of travel to a major vacation destination in just 2 weeks. Don’t shake your head. It’s true! Well, partially. A large part of it was planned for me by the fabulous folks at Mom It Forward. However, I still had to pull off the budget!

Here’s how I’m doing it…

  • Rent a car vs. flying if it’s cheaper. I used Entertainment Book coupons to get an upgrade and a 10% discount.
  • Sign up for the Shell Fuel Rewards program to save on fuel costs.
  • Bring groceries, cookware, plastic utensils and paper plates, a hot plate and induction cook top.
  • Bring water bottles and taking advantage of free ice water when we visit both Universal Studios and Disney World.
  • Purchase the picture package at Universal online, saving $10 off the package cost at the park and tens of dollars of buying images outright.
  • Keep an eye out for deals and ticket specials. Purchasing consecutive days can save a bundle vs. multiple 1-day tickets.
