One of Earth’s amazing treasures, copper is a malleable metal that possesses remarkably high electrical and thermal conductivity. Many find its lustrous, reddish-orange color to be quite attractive, which has definitely influenced the recent copper mug craze that seems to have taken the world by storm.
So what’s all the hype about?
Well, thanks to Drinkware Essentials, I’ve had the chance to try copper mugs out for myself so that I can tell you all about them! Keep reading to find out more about my experiences with the Drinkware Essentials Copper Mugs that I received.
Drinkware Essentials Copper Mug Review
Although I’ve advertised deals on copper mugs before, I’ve never actually owned one or even drank from one, so these types of mugs were completely new to me. I had no idea what to expect. Aside from knowing that it is a more dependable choice for wiring and plumbing, all I knew of copper was what I learned in Chemistry class. Oh, wait! I also knew that these mugs were growing in popularity as a functional and fashionable choice for beverage service. That said, I do have to admit that I was a little excited to have the opportunity to try these out. (I’d say I was super-excited, but I truly dreaded trying to find more room in my already over-filled cabinet for them!)
As I awaited the product, I wondered what types of drinks would be best to use them for. They’re recommended for cold beverages, but would hot beverages be good in them, too? Would the metal make anything taste funny? What if one of my kids left one sitting in their room and I didn’t notice. Would it rust? Obviously, I had many questions. Some of which still remain questions…but I’ll definitely cover the ones that I discovered the answers to in this review.
One of the first things I noticed about this company was that they ship remarkably fast! These Drinkware Essentials copper mugs were not only speedily shipped, but very well packed. Each mug was individually wrapped in tissue paper and boxed, then the boxes were placed in another box with packing paper to pad them during their journey. They arrived with each individual box still perfectly intact and not a single mug had so much as a scratch.
Are Copper Mugs Really All Copper?
I would imagine that there are companies in existence that have tried to pass off a metal blend in order to provide lower-cost products to the consumer. I’m happy that such a practice does not seem to be the case with this brand.
According to Drinkware Essentials, their mugs are 100% solid copper. Looking at them in person, I have no doubt that this is absolute truth. The color, luster, uniformity and thermal conductivity leave no questions thus far. I have not tried, nor will I be trying, electrical conductivity. I would highly recommend no one else try that either.
My Immediate Realizations
When you see something new, sometimes there are some things you just know. With these copper mugs, for instance, I could immediately tell that they were pretty durable because they were all metal. Unlike a glass mug, they wouldn’t shatter into pieces if I were to drop them. Would they ding? Possibly, but I imagine even little dings don’t come easily.
Also, because these mugs are ALL METAL, I immediately knew that they were not microwave safe and that they were probably not the best option for hot beverages. As you can see in the images, even the handles are all metal. Can you imagine how hot that would get with a fresh cup of coffee? Remember, copper is an AMAZING thermal conductor. Ouch!
These copper mugs are wide mouthed, so they’ll be great for nearly any type of cold beverage you can think of!
Did anything taste funny? Nope. In fact, everything I have tried in these mugs has tasted pretty darn amazing! And to think I was worried about tasting metal. Pssh!
Popular Recipes That Are Used with These Mugs
The most popular drink recipe for this mug is The Original Moscow Mule. In fact, it’s so popular that a recipe card comes in the package with each mug. It blends Vodka, Ginger Beer, Lime Juice and Ice for what is apparently a very tasty treat. I didn’t have any Ginger Beer on hand, and I’ve read that Gingerale isn’t nearly as good, so I’m waiting to get my hands on some quality Ginger Beer before trying out the Original Moscow Mule. In the meantime, I created a drink recipe of my own.
The Berry Tropical Coconut Cooler is a bit more of a complicated recipe than the Moscow Mule, but it is delicious all the same. I’ve provided the recipe below, so if you’re interested in trying out something new, by all means, give this a shot!
Berry Tropical Coconut Cooler
2 oz Malibu Rum
4 oz Nestle Exotics Sparkling Water: Strawberry Dragon Fruit
2 oz Pineapple Juice
Sliced Strawberries and Whole Blueberries
Mix all ingredients (including berries) together in a shaker. Shake thoroughly and pour over ice into a stylish copper mug from Drinkware Essentials! If preferred, sugar the rim prior to adding ice.
My Overall Opinion of Drinkware Essentials Copper Mugs
These copper mugs are durable, keep drinks amazingly cold and hold 16 ounces quite fashionably. Although they aren’t a great choice for hot beverages, they will definitely help keep you from having to go back for more ice. In addition, as long as you care for them properly, they should bring you many, many years of use. They’re available in a taller, hammered copper mug, a rounded hammered copper mug and a polished copper mug to suit various style preferences.
