Looking for a great gift for Mom? Teleflora’s “Celebrate Mom” bouquet makes a great impression!

I was given the opportunity to review the Celebrate Mom Bouquet from Teleflora – and let me tell you, this bouquet is just gorgeous! Packed with lilies, pink roses, Baby’s Breath and other lovely flowers that I don’t know the name of, the bouquet itself was a breathtaking sight that I imagine any mom would be more than happy to receive. I know I was very happy with it!

The quality of the cut flowers was nothing short of amazing. In fact, this pic was taken 2 days after I received the flowers and they still looked just as perfect as the day they arrived. I added fresh water after the third day and the flowers lasted nearly a week and a half before I had to toss them out…which was just yesterday. So, for those of you that can’t be with your mom on Mother’s Day and would like to send flowers, mom should get at least a good week of enjoyment from them!

I recently had the opportunity to review a piece of jewelry from SuperJeweler.com. Exciting, right? Sure it is! I love jewelry, but as a mom, I rarely go out and buy any new jewelry for myself because I’m always worried about making sure the kids have new clothes or new shoes, a new coat, a new book bag, etc. So in my eyes, this was not only something fun, but something that was just for me. Yes, that fact alone was exciting! Moms, you know what I’m saying.

Before I get to the actual jewelry review, I want to mention something I noticed right off the bat. See, I was provided with a few different options to pick from, so of course I went and checked them out to see which would best fit my personal style. As I was checking out those products, I noticed that there were actually quite a few eye-catching pieces that I just couldn’t help but click on…the whole time thinking, “I’ll never be able to afford this, but since I’m here anyway, I’m going to dream.”

But you know what? I was really surprised by the low prices! They have several pieces I saw that are absolutely gorgeous and the prices on them were nothing short of amazing.

Review of SuperJeweler.com’s Amethyst Bead Hand Knotted Necklace

For all of you that didn’t know it, February is my birth month, so I’m naturally drawn to beautiful Amethyst jewelry and this necklace was no exception. The second I saw this Amethyst Bead Hand Knotted Necklace, I knew that was what I would be reviewing because I instantly fell in love with it’s classic beauty. I had also been looking for something to help add some color to my wardrobe and this piece made it so simple.

Now, I know I mentioned pricing above, so let me give you an example of what I’m talking about. SuperJeweler shows the regular retail price on every piece, along with their price and any clearance or sale pricing that they are currently offering. This particular piece generally retails at $199.99, but SuperJeweler offers it for $149.99 and had it on clearance for $49.99. That’s an instant 75% savings!

When the product arrived, the very first thing I did was examine it. The quality was amazing. It seems to be very durable, so I don’t see the strand breaking anytime soon. You can clearly see the knots when you look closely, but they aren’t noticeable without a careful examination. I also want to mention the bead color – truly mesmerizing, deep purple beads that almost glow with perfection. Yes, I thought that they were that beautiful!

It’s nice to have some color to brighten up a dark outfit or even offset the glare of a bright white top, so this was perfect for me.

Another thing I loved? The necklace came in a cute little mesh jewelry bag. I thought this was a nice touch and I personally adored the color contrast when the necklace was in the bag. I’m not a big fan of the typical cardboard box packaging that most jewelry comes in. It’s just another thing to have to throw away. This bag, on the other hand, is something I’ll keep because it doesn’t take up a lot of space and it’s adorable.

What I Didn’t Like About the Amethyst Bead Hand Knotted Necklace

In truth, my only complaint about this necklace was that I couldn’t double it up like they did in the top picture (on the mannequin bust). I would blame it on having a big head, but that’s not it. It’s just not long enough to double up like that without having some type of clasp to allow it to unfasten. That said, I REALLY wish that it had a clasp because I would have loved to have been able to wear it as shown in that first picture. Instead, you can see that I tried to get creative and knot the Amethyst Beads Necklace myself. I have to admit, it’s not my favorite look, but I like it better than having it just hang plain.

My Overall Review of SuperJeweler – Hit or Miss?

Overall, I would have to say that the Amethyst Bead Hand Knotted Necklace from SuperJeweler is a hit. I love the beautiful color, the quality work that went into making it and the way that it sets off dark and white outfits. Even though I would have loved to have been able to double it up and wear it as a dual strand, I’m happy with the piece as-is. The product also came with SuperJewler’s Lifetime Enduring Quality Warranty, which gives customers peace of mind and shows that the company backs their products. Because the majority of the jewelry that I looked at on the site is very reasonably priced, I would definitely recommend SuperJeweler.com to anyone looking for quality jewelry on a budget. Valentine’s Day – Flowers Never Go Out of Style

I just love to have fresh cut flowers displayed in beautiful vases around the house. There’s something about bringing the outside in that just makes me smile. It brightens up the room and makes it smell beautiful, too. That’s why I’m so excited that Valentine’s Day is just around the corner! My Valentine usually brings me home a lovely bouquet of big, showy roses. I can’t wait!

Of course, holidays like Valentine’s Day are very popular days for florists. So be clever when you select the color of flowers for your sweetheart. Make your loved one think about what your thoughtful bouquet represents. One of the things that I love and respect about the Boys and Girls Clubs of America is that they help to give so many kids a brighter future. Of course, without the generous donations of people like you and me, a lot of the work that they do just wouldn’t be possible. Since the holiday season is upon us, many families are taking some time to teach their kids about the importance of giving and just how powerful generosity can truly be.

This actually marks the 2nd annual BGCA Give the Gift of a Great Future Holiday Campaign. You can visit the site to play the simple 30-second Giving Game where each win provides the BGCA with a donation. You can also make a donation directly on the website if you feel inclined to be a little bit more generous this holiday season. Donations start at as little as $5 and they go a long way towards the great work that the BGCA does! What better time to show your giving spirit than now?

Boys and Girls Clubs of America is even offering some helpful tips to help you share the joy of giving with your children this holiday season. I personally used some of these tips myself because I feel it’s very important to instill a giving nature in children. Rod Stewart’s New CD, “Merry Christmas, Baby,” Warms Heart and Home

Rod Stewart’s very first holiday CD, “Merry Christmas, Baby” definitely doesn’t disappoint!

Christmas is a wonderful time of year. The crisp winter air is filled with the sweet scents of holiday cookies, candies, cakes  and the heartwarming sounds of the holidays. Speaking of sounds, I was recently contacted by Verve to review Rod Stewart’s brand new holiday CD, “Merry Christmas, Baby.”

I’ve been a long time fan of Rod Stewart. I can remember dancing around to his music when I was little, watching his videos on MTV and singing along. I always like Rod’s music, but my favorites are Forever Young, Have I Told You Lately, Having a Party, and my very favorite, Maggie May. But you know what? I have some new favorites to add to that list now!

“Merry Christmas, Baby” includes several classics and some new favorites as well!

Along with the unmistakeable voice of Rod Stewart, I really enjoyed the song choices. “Merry Christmas, Baby” provides some classic holiday songs indeed, but many have been cleverly transformed into more modern versions that you’ll want to play again and again. I certainly did and will continue to do so throughout the season.

Featured guests include Michael Buble, Mary J. Blige, Cee-Lo Green and a very special ‘virtual’ duet with Ella Fitzgerald.

If you’re looking for instant gratification in your Christmas music this season, then be sure to play tracks 5 and 11 because they will blow your mind!  They were definitely my two favorite tracks on the entire CD, although I certainly can’t complain about the rest of it.

Track 5 is a fabulous duet with Cee Lo Green on the upbeat song, Merry Christmas, Baby. After listening to it, I can definitely understand why this song was also chosen for the title of the CD. It’s fun, upbeat and completely fabulous because it plays on the vocal strengths of both artists and neither disappoints!

Another of my new favorites, We Three Kings (track 11), was turned into a very powerful duet with the extremely talented vocalist, Mary J. Blige. When I heard this song for the first time, I was literally awestruck. The combination of these two beautiful voices was the perfect blend. I had to play it again immediately after the first listen just to hear the sweet sound that these two artists created. It’s a truly magical track that you can feel throughout your entire body.

The other tracks on “Merry Christmas, Baby” are all heartwarming renditions of classic favorites that we’ve all grown up hearing each and every holiday season – but with that Rod Stewart style that we’ve all come to know and love. I absolutely loved hearing him sing Let it Snow! Let it Snow! Let it Snow! and Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. One thing is for sure, Rod definitely still delivers the hits!

When You Can’t Be There, Gifts Still Can

I used to dread the holidays. Not because I don’t like to give and certainly not because I don’t like to shop! The reason I used to dread holiday shopping was because there were several people on my list that I consistently had a difficult time choosing a gift for. In most cases, these were the people that lived outside of my immediate area – some several hours away. When you don’t see someone on a regular basis, it makes it very difficult to choose a gift when birthdays, anniversaries and Christmas cropped up. What do you get a person you rarely see – especially when you won’t be there to give the gift in person?

The solution was simple!

After years of struggling to find something suitable, I finally stumbled upon a site with some potential to bring me out of this gift finding rut. Halloween and Christmas are my two favorite holidays of the year, but I really like Halloween because it’s so much cheaper to pull off than Christmas. Of course, if you’re going to throw a party that everyone will talk about for years to come, you’ve got to have some fun Halloween party games to play! Bobbing for apples is always fun, but there’s a lot more you can do that will keep the chills running down the spines of your party goeers. Here are a few fun Halloween party game ideas that will make your party the talk of the town!

Who’s That Ghoul?

Place “parts” of a ghoul, monster or scary character in large, darkly colored plastic bowls. One piece per bowl. Cover bowls with dark towels or wrap completely with Saran wrap and cut a slit in the middle (large enough to accommodate a hand). Use a Sharpie to black out the top so that no one is able to see into the bowl. Just to be sure, blindfold the player. The player can use one hand to feel the object in each bowl. Once they have felt the objects, they are led away from the area and the blindfold is removed. The player must then write down, in order, the monsters that the pieces in each bowl represent. Need ideas for monster parts? You can use a bold for Frankenstein, a sharp tooth for Dracula, slime for The Blob, a chain for Leatherface, a ski mask for Jason, etc. Get creative and think outside the bowl. [Read more...]
