Encourage fun with Angry Birds Star Wars products!

My family and I are huge fans of Angry Birds. In fact, when I’m not blogging or handling any of my motherly responsibilities, I often log on to play the Angry Birds game on Facebook. My son occasionally joins me and we “take turns” as he calls it, though he usually gets far more turns than I do.

I’m always looking for fun games for my kids, so when I was approached to review an Angry Birds Star Wars game, I think I actually did a little dance in my chair. Would this mean that I would now actually get the Facebook App all to myself? That question is still unanswered, but I do want to tell you about this super-cool game, so let me get on with that.

Angry Birds Star Wars Millennium Falcon Bounce Game Review

For the purpose of this review, I was provided with the Angry Birds Star Wars Millennium Falcon Bounce Game and an Angry Birds Star Wars Foam Flyers StormTrooper. You can see both of the brand new products in the images below.

When the package arrived at my doorstep, my son instantly saw the Angry Birds Star Wars sticker on the front of the box and started hopping around like a monkey, unable to control his excitement. “Hurry mom! Open it! Open it! I want to play it!” And as soon as I could locate the scissors to cut the tape on the box, I got it open. The Angry Birds Star Wars Foam Flyers StormTrooper came out easily, but we did have some trouble getting the Angry Birds Star Wars Millennium Falcon Bounce Game out of the box. It must have been cleverly fit to within a millimeter of the box because it was in there so snug that I shook it and banged on the bottom of the box for a good five minutes before I had moved it enough to get it out of the shipping box. Then it was off to put it together!

It looks like there was a lot of assembly required, but it really wasn’t all that difficult. It took us about twenty minutes to get it all put together – and yes, I let my son help! He got to decorate the inside of the box, which is supposed to resemble outer space – nice touch, Hasbro! We thought that little addition was very cool. He also helped me push the stickers down to make sure they didn’t come off. I love that he’s so eager to help!

So once we got the game all put together, the first image at the top of this post was the result. Pretty cool, right? To play the game, you place it on the table or floor and bounce the Angry Birds balls on the floor or table surface in an attempt to knock down the little cardboard bad guys. They have the Angry Birds versions of StormTroopers, Darth Vader and others – and the renditions are something that even die hard Star Wars fans will appreciate.

We’ve had lots of fun with the game so far and my son has been flying around the house with the Foam Flyers Storm Trooper, so I’m pretty sure that gets a thumbs-up from him, too!

Bake a Bone Review – Worth the Work for Healthier Dog Treats?

Lots of dog owners feel guilty when feeding their dogs treats that they can’t even pronounce the ingredients of. Worse yet is the fact that healthy and gourmet dog treats are very expensive. What is Bake a Bone?

Bake a Bone is an easy to use dog bone baking station. Similar to the waffle maker and the cake pop maker, this device allows you to pour batter into the bone-shaped areas and it bakes the batter into dog bones in minutes. It comes with a handy recipe book to get you started making your very own dog treats in no time. With a good variety of recipes, it’s easy to variate the recipes and even experiment with new ones.

Does Bake a Bone Work?

It seems like every time there’s a product on TV, the first thing people think is, “That probably doesn’t work nearly as good as they claim it does.” Humans are skeptical beings. However, the Bake a Bone really does work. In fact, it works great and it’s really easy! Just pour in the batter, close the top and let those bones cook for a few minutes. Presto! You pop out the cutest little dog bones!

The key to getting the bones to bake right is to use the right amount of batter. I’m a “guestimater” and I had a few that you could tell were lacking a little on the batter, but I had a couple that I added too much to as well. It took time to figure out what the perfect amount to add was, but I evidently figured it out because I finally started producing fairly uniform bones.

Now the bones weren’t quite as hard or crunchy as I had expected them to be, but they were bone-shaped treats that were probably a whole lot healthier for my dogs than most of the treats I’ve picked up for them at the store. And they are fresh! The actual consistency of the bones themselves is more along the lines of a cookie, but more like a cake cookie than anything else. The dogs loved them and literally gobbled them up in no time.

What Bake a Bone recipes did I try?

The only batter I’ve baked so far has been the mixes that were included with my review product. I made the bacon and the peanut butter mixes and we still have some bones left from that. However, I do have the ingredients I need to make a few of the recipes that I’ve glanced at in the book and I’ve been jotting down ideas for new recipes as well. I’ll be happy to share them with you once I make them and they are taste-tester approved.

You can currently purchase this product on the Bake a Bone website and through Fingerhut. The price ranges from $29.99 + shipping to $39.99 + shipping. The price depends on whether you get the standard model with one mix or the deluxe version with multiple mixes. It also comes with an accompanying cookbook that contains 30 recipes for dog bones.

Is Bake a Bone recommended?

I would highly recommend this product for anyone interested in providing their dogs with healthier treats. If you have tried gourmet dog treats before, but just can’t see spending that much money for treats, then you might be more than happy with this product. Not only will you be feeding your dog healthier treats, but it will come at a much lower price than what you’d pay at the supermarket.

Mia Mariu Restauracel-C Review

Microdermabrasion made easy? That’s the story with Mia Mariu’s RestauraCel-C!

Ever get sick of feeling rough skin on your face? I know I’ve been frustrated with it a time or two and, as I’ve aged, I’ve noticed that the changing seasons take a toll on my skin much more now than they did in the past. Mia Mariu is a company known for the gentleness of their mineral makeup and skin care products. I was recently given the opportunity to review part of their skin care line, and chose to review the RestauraCel-C, as it is touted as a gentle alternative to microdermabrasion made specifically for use at home. It comes in a 2 piece set: Refinisher and Thermal Activator.

What are the ingredients in RestauraCel-C?

As we all know, there are certain ingredients that work wonders on the skin. So what are the magical ingredients in Mia Mariu RestauraCel-C? The Refinisher Cream contains Peg-6, Sodium Bicarbonate, Oleth-20, Glyceryl Stearate SE, Silica Silylate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Retinyl Palmitate, and Beta Carotene.

The Thermal Activator contains Water, Lactic Acid, Linoleamidopropyl PG-Dimonium Chloride Phosphate, Propylene Glycol, Ployquaternium-10, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Diazolidinyl Urea, Methylparaben, and Propylparaben.

Much like the microdermabrasion treatments that you receive at the spa, these products do make your skin more sensitive to the sun and increase the risk of sunburn, so it’s wise to limit your sun exposure when using these products. I limit my own exposure anyway due to sun sensitivities, so I have been especially careful since using these products.

Does Mia Mariu RestauraCel-C work?

Applying RestauraCel-C is easy. The first step is to ensure that your skin is clean and dry. Next, gently apply the Refinishing cream to the skin. Immediately apply the Thermal Activator by massaging it into the skin in a circular motion without concentrating on any one area. Once you’ve massaged this around your face, then rinse your face thoroughly with warm water. That’s it – you’re done!

The results? Although I didn’t notice a big difference in the lines on my face, I did immediately notice that my skin felt a lot smoother, and my pores looked smaller. I’ve only used the product once at this point, but I do plan to continue using it, so I will update this post with my results over time.

RestauraCel-C can be purchased through any Mia Mariu representative or you cans shop Mia Mariu’s website. The RestauraCel-C set retails for approximately $55.00. As far as I know it is not available elsewhere.

Is Mia Mariu RestauraCel-C recommended?

If you’ve got large pores, fine lines and uneven skin tone, RestauraCel-C may be a good product for you. I have personally been happy with my experience so far and do plan to continue using the product.I wouldn’t recommend this for anyone that works outdoors, tans regularly or is unable to refrain from being exposed to the sun for more than 15 minutes at a time.

Teleflora Review – Perfect for Mother’s Day or Any Other Occasion!

I was given the opportunity to review the Celebrate Mom Bouquet from Teleflora – and let me tell you, this bouquet is just gorgeous! Packed with lilies, pink roses, Baby’s Breath and other lovely flowers that I don’t know the name of, the bouquet itself was a breathtaking sight that I imagine any mom would be more than happy to receive. I know I was very happy with it!

The quality of the cut flowers was nothing short of amazing. In fact, this pic was taken 2 days after I received the flowers and they still looked just as perfect as the day they arrived. I added fresh water after the third day and the flowers lasted nearly a week and a half before I had to toss them out…which was just yesterday. So, for those of you that can’t be with your mom on Mother’s Day and would like to send flowers, mom should get at least a good week of enjoyment from them!

Hot Buns Review – Making the Classic Bun Easy

Ever wish you could recreate the classy looking buns that the stars sport? Hot Buns makes it happen!

There’s nothing more frustrating than having a bad day AND having a bad hair day on top of everything else that’s going wrong. I’m a mom, trust me on this.

So, of course, I was excited when I was contacted by Hot Buns and asked if I would be interested in reviewing their product. As I read the email, the first thing that popped into my mind was, “YEAH! That’s exactly what I need!” So I responded quickly to let them know I was, indeed, interested. I opted for the dark version of Hot Buns because I have dark brown hair.

I patiently awaited the arrival of the product, but it didn’t take long. I believe it was five days later that I received my package, ripped it open and met my Hot Buns for the very first time. Forgive me, but I just loved saying that! And that’s one of the things that’s so fun about this product – the name! LOVE it!

Hot Buns Review – What is Hot Buns?

Hot Buns is a device that is designed to grab your hair as you roll it up. It then bends around to form a circle, and snaps to complete the circle. Each package of Hot Buns comes with two of these devices, one large and one small. The large one is great if you’re using it for all of your hair, while the small one is great for little girls, those with short hair, really thin hair or when you only want to put half of your hair up.

Hot Buns costs roughly $17.95 for the 2-piece set, and $7.95 of that is the shipping. For an additional shipping charge of $7.95, you can get 2 sets (totaling $25.90).

The commercial claims that all you have to do is put your hair in a ponytail, roll it up with Hot Buns, snap it and wrap it. But is it really that easy? You’re about to find out.

Hot Buns Review – Does It Really Work?

With any new product, there’s always skepticism. It seems like this is especially true for new products that are advertised on television and only available by ordering either via phone or online. Hot Buns is an “As Seen on TV” product, but I can honestly say that it works…even though it was pretty difficult for me to use.

Now, don’t get me wrong; I’m not faulting Hot Buns for me having issues using it. That’s my fault for letting my hair grow to almost 4 ft. in length. With hair like this, it’s hard to find anything that is actually “easy” for me to use simply because my arms can’t stretch that far behind my head. That said, I was quite surprised that this product actually did hold my hair in place — and for the entire day!

My lovely stepdaughter assisted me with getting the bottom part of my hair rolled up into it. Once about half of my hair was rolled up, I took over. I have to admit, I really didn’t think I was going to be able to snap it or wrap it ( you pull the elastic band tight and then wrap it around the base of the bun to further secure it), but I was able to with no issue.

The image to the right is the result. I do think I rolled it a little loose this first time, but I plan to experiment with it some more and see what I can do on my own. I may be able to flip it in front of my head and get it started on my own that way.

Hot Buns Review – Recommended?

Do I recommend it for those with hair as long as mine? If you have someone to help you get it started, you should be okay. For those with semi-long to shoulder length hair, I think this would be fabulous and very easy to use.

Overall, I like the product. I was very impressed that it held the weight of my hair up all day long and that I was actually able to clip it. It grips the hair just enough to make it effective, while not forcing you to rip your hair out when you take your hair down – - another huge bonus.

Ola! Review – Completely Natural Granola

If you’re a fan of granola, you’re going to love Ola!

I recently had the opportunity to try an assortment of tasty goodness from a company that was completely new to me: Ola! Foods. The products I was asked to try was an assortment of Ola! granola products. I’m a huge fan of granola, though the granola I typically eat comes in the form of a bar or a little sprinkle’s worth in a plastic cup that accompanies my yogurt. In exchange for my honest review, I received the following products: A full size bag of Ola! Cranberry Orange Pecan , a full size bag of Ola! Vanilla Almond, a full size bag of Ola! No Nut Vanilla, and snack sized bags of No Nut Vanilla and Vanilla Almond.

Ola! Review – What is so great about Ola!?

Ola! Granola is 100% natural. You know what that means? It means that there are words that you recognize on the back of the package…yep, right there in the ingredients list. There are no confusing scientific terms here, which makes me feel a whole lot better about feeding it to my family. What might you expect to see? Well, some of the ingredient lists are still fairly long, but it’s because of the natural goodness. Here’s an example from the back of the Ola! Cranberry Orange Pecan package:

Ingredients: Whole Grain Oats, Pecans, Pure Maple Syrup, Dried Cranberries (sugar, expeller canola oil), Wheat Bran, Whole Wheat Flour, Orange Juice, Non-GMO Expeller Pressed Canola Oil, Pure Vanilla Extract, Cinnamon and Sea Salt.

Pretty cool, right? That’s one of my favorite things about Ola!, but it’s certainly not the only thing! It’s also REALLY tasty! Pop a handful in your mouth and you’ll not only taste a burst of all natural flavor, but it’s also crunchy and supremely enjoyable.

Ola! Review – Even Picky Kids Like Ola!

Finally, my very favorite thing about Ola! is that my picky 4 yr. old is in love with it. Yes, moms, it’s good for you AND picky kids like it! Well, I shouldn’t say ALL picky kids, but my son is pretty picky and he devoured a snack pack in record time. The fact that my child liked it alone is enough to make me a huge fan of this line of products. Although my son liked all of the different flavors, I think his favorite was the Vanilla Almond because he really likes Almonds. I gave him the snack pack after I took my picture of the grouping and he practically inhaled it and asked for more.

Of course, when I told him that I wanted to try the Cranberry Orange Pecan, he grabbed it from me and said, “Me first, mom!” I’m usually not fond of that attitude, but I didn’t mind so much since I was happy that he wanted to eat something other than pizza or hot dogs. You can see him hugging the package of Ola! above. Cute, huh? Keep in mind that he had a death grip on it because he didn’t want to share it with me. I can only imagine what the pics would look like of me trying to get it away from him. Luckily, dad wasn’t home to facilitate images of that scene, but I will tell you that it involved me having to chase him down the hallway. Surprisingly, he doesn’t even act like that with candy, so I’m a happy mom.

Personally, I think Ola! is a little bit addictive. I seriously could not stop snacking on it. In fact, I’m pretty sure I had at least two servings before I went and put it up and out of my line of sight. Bottom line? This stuff is good!

I recently had the opportunity to review a piece of jewelry from SuperJeweler.com. Exciting, right? Sure it is! I love jewelry, but as a mom, I rarely go out and buy any new jewelry for myself because I’m always worried about making sure the kids have new clothes or new shoes, a new coat, a new book bag, etc. So in my eyes, this was not only something fun, but something that was just for me. Yes, that fact alone was exciting! Moms, you know what I’m saying.

Before I get to the actual jewelry review, I want to mention something I noticed right off the bat. See, I was provided with a few different options to pick from, so of course I went and checked them out to see which would best fit my personal style. As I was checking out those products, I noticed that there were actually quite a few eye-catching pieces that I just couldn’t help but click on…the whole time thinking, “I’ll never be able to afford this, but since I’m here anyway, I’m going to dream.”

But you know what? I was really surprised by the low prices! They have several pieces I saw that are absolutely gorgeous and the prices on them were nothing short of amazing.

Review of SuperJeweler.com’s Amethyst Bead Hand Knotted Necklace

For all of you that didn’t know it, February is my birth month, so I’m naturally drawn to beautiful Amethyst jewelry and this necklace was no exception. The second I saw this Amethyst Bead Hand Knotted Necklace, I knew that was what I would be reviewing because I instantly fell in love with it’s classic beauty. I had also been looking for something to help add some color to my wardrobe and this piece made it so simple.

Now, I know I mentioned pricing above, so let me give you an example of what I’m talking about. SuperJeweler shows the regular retail price on every piece, along with their price and any clearance or sale pricing that they are currently offering. This particular piece generally retails at $199.99, but SuperJeweler offers it for $149.99 and had it on clearance for $49.99. That’s an instant 75% savings!

When the product arrived, the very first thing I did was examine it. The quality was amazing. It seems to be very durable, so I don’t see the strand breaking anytime soon. You can clearly see the knots when you look closely, but they aren’t noticeable without a careful examination. I also want to mention the bead color – truly mesmerizing, deep purple beads that almost glow with perfection. Yes, I thought that they were that beautiful!

And just look at how great it looks on!

It’s nice to have some color to brighten up a dark outfit or even offset the glare of a bright white top, so this was perfect for me.

Another thing I loved? The necklace came in a cute little mesh jewelry bag. I thought this was a nice touch and I personally adored the color contrast when the necklace was in the bag. I’m not a big fan of the typical cardboard box packaging that most jewelry comes in. It’s just another thing to have to throw away. This bag, on the other hand, is something I’ll keep because it doesn’t take up a lot of space and it’s adorable.

What I Didn’t Like About the Amethyst Bead Hand Knotted Necklace

In truth, my only complaint about this necklace was that I couldn’t double it up like they did in the top picture (on the mannequin bust). I would blame it on having a big head, but that’s not it. It’s just not long enough to double up like that without having some type of clasp to allow it to unfasten. That said, I REALLY wish that it had a clasp because I would have loved to have been able to wear it as shown in that first picture. Instead, you can see that I tried to get creative and knot the Amethyst Beads Necklace myself. I have to admit, it’s not my favorite look, but I like it better than having it just hang plain.

My Overall Review of SuperJeweler – Hit or Miss?

Overall, I would have to say that the Amethyst Bead Hand Knotted Necklace from SuperJeweler is a hit. I love the beautiful color, the quality work that went into making it and the way that it sets off dark and white outfits. Even though I would have loved to have been able to double it up and wear it as a dual strand, I’m happy with the piece as-is.
