Review of the Fieldcrest Luxury Pillow with DACRON Memory Fiber

When was the Last Time You Loved Your Pillow?

Thousands lie in bed every night, tossing and turning. A large percentage claim that this issue is caused due to poor pillows. Your pillow may be too flat, too fluffy, too hard or too soft. It may even hold too much heat. Whatever the reason, don’t you wish it could be “just right”?

So what’s my story?

I have one pillow that used to be “just right” (its mate is the property of my significant other). It was perfect for a while. So much so in fact that I proclaimed to all of my family and friends that I would never buy another type of pillow again. However, after three washes, its ability to hold its form has greatly diminished. Instead of the fluffy, even comfort I fell in love with, I’m now experiencing lumping of the down alternative fiberfill.

How many of you have experienced pillows that say “washable”, but fail to mention that the fiberfill inside may clump, causing your favorite pillow to soon join your collection of “extra pillows” that you can’t stand to use anymore? I know I’m not the only one. That just isn’t possible!

Fieldcrest Luxury Pillow with DACRON Memory Fiber Down Alternative Fiberfill

Of course, I was elated to find out that I would have the opportunity to review a brand new pillow that will soon be debuting exclusively at Target; the Fieldcrest Luxury Pillow with DACRON Memory Fiber Down Alternative Fiberfill. I must admit, I did wonder if it would come anywhere close to the comfort of my previous pillow in its prime, but I vowed that I would give them a thorough review.

About DACRON Memory Fiber

DACRON Memory Fiber is a polyester fill of premium quality and memory technology. It is hypoallergenic, machine washable and a wonderful alternative to down at a mere fraction of the price. DACRON Memory Fiber contains millions of micro-denier fibers that result in a soft fiberfill with amazing loftiness. Manufactured by INVISTA, DACRON and its quality seal can be found on all products that are filled with the INVISTA company’s premium fiberfills. So aside from the DACRON Memory Fiber Down Alternative Fiberfill, products containing Comforel, Peforma and DuraLife fiberfills also have the DACRON fiber quality seal.

What makes this seal so important?

For more than 50 years, DACRON has been the brand of choice for superior bedding fiberfill. Consumers all over the United States associate it with quality. If you would like more information on DACRON, please visit: http://www.invista.com/en/brands/dacron.html.

My Examination of the Fieldcrest Luxury Pillow with DACRON Memory Fiber Down Alternative Fiberfill

When the pillows arrived, I admit I was a bit excited. They looked so luxurious! Of course, I took a few moments to examine them closely, just like I do when I’m in the store.

Why? Well, I made the mistake of ordering pillows I had never heard of online long ago and the result was utter disappointment. The stitching was very poor and the fabric used to house the stuffing was extremely thin – almost like something you would expect to be given on an airplane or in a hospital emergency room. Since that time, I’ve always taken great care to ensure that my pillows are of good quality. For me, that means actually taking the time to go to the store to purchase them. That gives me the chance to give them a good once over before I spend my hard earned dollars on a product that I expect to last me a few years.

I’m happy to say that these Fieldcrest pillows were nowhere near poor quality in terms of stitching, the choice of fabric and filling. In fact, I was quite impressed after my initial examination of the product. The pillows seemed to be of high quality and the fluffiness was outstanding. Still, this is a review, so I decided to delve a bit deeper to find out exactly what these pillows were made of.

What did I find out?

As mentioned above, the stitching is very well done and seems to be exceptionally strong. One thing I have to note is that there were no stray threads. I’ve purchase several pillows that have “hangers on” still left in the packaging or attached to the pillow. That wasn’t the case with these. When I pulled these pillows from the clear plastic bags that they arrived in, there was nothing left behind, nor was there anything present on the pillow covers. That’s what I call immaculate quality control. I don’t think that the pictures I took quite show how great the quality is, but I hope that they help to give you a better idea.

The fabric cover that houses the fiberfill is nice and durable, yet has a satiny smooth quality that makes these pillows look like they would fall into a much higher price range. After a bit of research, I found out that the pillow cover is actually made of 300-count 100% cotton sateen. With a nice clean striped design, these pillows didn’t just feel amazing; they also looked it!

The Sleep Test

I immediately grabbed the extra pillow cases and slid these beauties inside. Might I remind you that I have a toddler who is in the “That’s Mine” phase? No sticky little fingers were going to ruin these pillows before I had the chance to fully test them out for myself! And that I did.

On the first night with my Fieldcrest Luxury Pillow with DACRON Memory Fiber Down Alternative Fiberfill…

The very same day that the pillows arrived, my four nieces (two in from out of town) were staying with good old Aunt Shawna. Every pillow in the house would be required. However, instead of having to give two of them throw pillows, I supplied them with the pillows from my bed – no, not the new Fieldcrest pillows! The old ones…yes, I know. How cruel. But this gave me the opportunity to give these new pillows my full attention and a completely thorough review.

The first thing I noticed when I laid down to go to sleep was that these pillows are EXTREMELY lofty. Seriously. Check these pillows out at Target in mid-June and you’ll understand what I’m talking about – they give a whole new meaning to “fluffy pillows” and definitely decrease the need to have them fluffed! Believe it or not, this was an aspect that I was not immediately excited about. I was worried that they would cause my neck to be sore in the morning because they were so very fluffy. However, that wasn’t quite the case. The pillow actually seemed to adjust to me. Was it perfect? Not quite. I can’t say that it was terrible, as I think it was more to do with the fact that I wasn’t quite used to the fluffiness yet. I was able to fall asleep fairly quickly, but I was also super-tired. Having five kids at the house exhausted me. I woke up early the next morning and felt a little tired, but fine. Nothing that isn’t to be expected with four hours of sleep.

Fieldcrest Luxury Pillow with DACRON Memory Fiber Down Alternative Fiberfill - Lofty

The second night with my Fieldcrest Luxury Pillow with DACRON Memory Fiber Down Alternative Fiberfill…

I decided to bring the pillow into the living room with me to cuddle up to while I watched Game of Thrones. What good is a pillow if it can’t help you get comfy while you watch one of your favorite shows, right? At first, I had it behind my back, but it wasn’t really working for me there. Too much fluff and I’m just not that patient when I’m trying to get into my shows. I mean, it WAS the season finale, so the last thing I wanted to worry about was being comfortable. So I took the pillow out from behind my back and instead used it to lean on…and then lay on. I was comfortable and happy! Mission accomplished.

When I went to bed that night, I noticed that the pillow was right back to its fluffy self again. This time, I was a little more used to it and it seemed like I fell asleep easily enough. I’ve found that I have to position it a little bit lower than my old pillow in order to get comfortable. For me, that means that the very bottom of the Fieldcrest Luxury Pillow has to be positioned right at my shoulder blades. Even then, I am still inclined a bit more than I’m used to.

The third night with my Fieldcrest Luxury Pillow with DACRON Memory Fiber Down Alternative Fiberfill…

On the third night, I tried something a little different. Instead of sleeping on my back, I chose to sleep on my side. This pillow is great for side-sleepers! Although it took a few minutes for the pillow to adjust, it was very comfortable once it did. Now before I tried the side-sleeping, I tried sleeping on my stomach. I wasn’t all that pleased with the results, as the pillow is just too lofty for me to get comfortable on my stomach.

My Conclusion and Recommendations

This Fieldcrest pillow is very well made – precisely what you would expect from any item using the word “luxury” in its name or marketing. The stitching is superb and the cover is remarkably soft. The pillow also seems to hold its shape very well and, for the most part, lives up to what one would expect of “Memory Fiber” fiberfill. I firmly believe that it will continue to hold its shape for a long time to come, yet I did not subject the pillow to the wash test, so I cannot accurately rate it in this area. That said, I cannot give this pillow any negative marks in terms of quality at this point.

As most of you know, many pillows are made specifically for certain types of sleepers. In my opinion, the Fieldcrest Luxury Pillow with DACRON Memory Fiber Down Alternative Fiberfill is a great pillow for side and back sleepers; however, I do not recommend it for stomach sleepers. You may have different results, but I couldn’t get comfortable in this position due to the pillow’s loftiness. I also couldn’t get comfortable on the couch with the pillow behind my back. Other than that, I feel that this new Fieldcrest Luxury Pillow is a wonderful pillow that I am proud to have in my home…and that I plan to sleep comfortably on for a long time to come!

Where Can You Find the Fieldcrest Luxury Pillow with DACRON Memory Fiber Down Alternative Fiberfill?

This Fieldcrest pillow will be making an exclusive debut at Target stores nationwide in mid-June. With over 50 years of recognition for superior quality, DACRON is very well known for being associated with luxury, so I imagine that these new pillows will be received with open arms by consumers. Be sure to check them out at a Target near you. If you get one, don’t forget to come back and tell me what you think!
